DramaBox Subscription Cost (2026): Weekly, Annual and the Coin Route, Verified
- Weekly Membership costs $9.99 a week for the first three weeks (shown as 23% off $12.99), then renews at $12.99 a week.
- Annual Membership costs $119.99 a year — the app markets it as "only $2.31/week".
- Coins are the alternative: packs run $2.99 for 300 coins up to $24.99 for 3,500, and one locked episode costs 50 coins — roughly $0.50 at the smallest pack.
- DramaBox prices by country. The same device showed Japanese yen and US dollars on different days, so make sure you are actually seeing USD before you compare anything.
- For finishing one series, coins are usually cheaper. For two or more series a month, the annual plan wins by a wide margin.
The two ways DramaBox charges
DramaBox sells the same catalogue two ways, and the right answer depends almost entirely on how many series you finish:
- Membership — a weekly or annual subscription that unlocks everything
- Coins — a pay-per-episode balance, 50 coins per locked episode
Every price below was read inside the app on an Android phone with a US Google Play account, on 9 October 2026. All figures in USD. We also captured the same pages in Japanese yen a day earlier, which turns out to matter — see the regional pricing section.
Weekly Membership: the three-week intro
The weekly plan is priced as a hook: $9.99 per week for the first three weeks, displayed against a crossed-out $12.99 and labelled 23% off, with a 24-hour countdown. After week three it renews at $12.99 per week.
Three things to know before you tap Join:
- The intro price is temporary in every sense. Like ReelShort, DramaBox rotates its discount (we saw a $3.00-off coupon popup layered on top on the same day). The number you see tomorrow may not be the number we saw.
- Google Play charges 24 hours before each period ends, and the renewal rate is nearly 30% above the intro rate. This gap is where most people overspend — see how to cancel a DramaBox subscription for the mechanics, step by step.
- “Cancel anytime” is real but it lives in Google Play, not in the app. Cancelling keeps your access until the period you already paid for ends.
Annual Membership
The annual plan is $119.99 per year, and the app does the division for you: “Only $2.31/week”. That is the honest comparison to the $12.99 weekly renewal — the annual plan costs less than a fifth per week.
Membership includes unlimited access to a catalogue the app counts at 16,000+ series with 100+ new dramas a week, downloads, 1080p playback, members-only titles, and a member points system.
Member points can only be earned by paying members, and 500 points buys one extra day of membership. It is a discount on a subscription you already have — worth taking, but it should not factor into whether you subscribe.
Coins: the pay-per-episode route
If you do not want a subscription at all, coins unlock individual episodes at 50 coins each. The packs we recorded:
| Pack | Price | Coins | Cost per coin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $2.99 | 300 | ~$0.0100 |
| Popular | $6.99 | 770 (700 + 70 bonus) | ~$0.0091 |
| Value | $12.99 | 1,600 (1,300 + 300 bonus) | ~$0.0081 |
| Best value | $24.99 | 3,500 (2,500 + 1,000 bonus) | ~$0.0071 |
At the starter pack’s rate, one episode costs about $0.50. A 43-episode series with roughly 11 free opening episodes therefore costs around $16 in coins to finish with the smallest pack, or about $11 if you buy the largest pack.
Free coins do exist, and they are worth collecting before you buy anything: the check-in calendar pays up to 50 coins on day seven, video tasks pay 20 coins each up to 15 times a day, and new accounts get one-time bonuses for signing in and enabling notifications. We count every source and its daily cap in DramaBox free coins.
Coins vs membership: where the line sits
The crossover is easy to compute once you know your own habits:
- One series a month or less: coins. Finishing a typical series costs $11–16 in coins, against $9.99 for the first week of membership — close enough that the subscription only wins if you finish within a week and cancel on time.
- Two or more series a month: the annual plan. At roughly $10 a month equivalent, it undercuts coin spending decisively.
- Binge-heavy months: a single week of membership covers a full short series if you watch intensively and cancel before renewal. This is the cheapest paid route of all — but it depends on you actually cancelling, which is exactly the step people forget.
For the head-to-head numbers against ReelShort, see our direct comparison — the short version is that DramaBox’s entry coin pack is cheaper ($2.99 vs $4.99) while its largest pack is slightly worse value, and its weekly renewal sits inside ReelShort’s observed range.
Prices change by country — check your currency
This is the finding that most price-writeups miss. DramaBox displays prices based on the country your connection appears to come from, and its own store page says to restart the app to refresh localized pricing.
We proved it accidentally: the same phone, same Google account, showed the full price list in Japanese yen one day and US dollars the next after the network path changed.
Practically: if you are comparing prices across sites, first confirm the currency on your own screen matches the article you are reading. A yen price is not a dollar price, and a review that mixes them is wrong on arrival.
What this cost breakdown does not cover
- These are Android, US-account prices from 9 October 2026. DramaBox rotates discounts and adjusts regional pricing often; the shape of the table will outlast the specific numbers. Re-check in the app before you buy.
- We did not test iOS pricing. Apple’s commission sometimes produces different in-app prices, and we will not claim a number we have not seen.
- The coin estimates assume 50 coins per episode, which held across the titles we opened. Some promotional or members-only series may price differently, and series length varies widely, so per-series figures are worked examples rather than a guarantee.
- This page will not tell you whether DramaBox is worth watching — only what it costs. For that, see our full DramaBox review, including where its paywall lands compared with ReelShort.
Bottom line
DramaBox costs $9.99 a week for three weeks, then $12.99 a week — or $119.99 a year, which is about $2.31 a week. Coins price out at roughly $0.50 per episode from the smallest pack and less from bigger ones.
One series a month: coins, or a single well-timed subscription week. Two or more: annual. And whichever route you pick, confirm you are looking at USD — the app will happily show you a different currency and a different discount tomorrow.
Frequently asked questions
How much does DramaBox cost per week?
In our in-app test on Android (October 2026), Weekly Membership was $9.99 a week for the first three weeks — displayed as 23% off the $12.99 list price — and then renews at $12.99 a week. A $3.00-off coupon popup appeared on top of the intro price on one day, but that kind of stacked discount rotates, so treat it as a snapshot rather than a promise.
Is the DramaBox annual plan worth it?
At $119.99 a year (about $2.31 per week as the app itself calculates), the annual plan is far cheaper per week than the $12.99 renewal rate. If you finish two or more series a month, annual is the cheapest legitimate route we measured. If you watch less than that, it is paying for content you will not open.
How many coins does one episode cost on DramaBox?
One locked episode costs 50 coins. Against the smallest coin pack ($2.99 for 300 coins), that works out to roughly $0.50 per episode. Note that the app spends reward coins first when you unlock, so your paid coins last longer if you have been collecting free ones.
Why did DramaBox show me prices in a different currency?
DramaBox prices by the country your connection appears to come from, not by your store account. On our test device the app showed Japanese yen through one connection and US dollars through another, and its own help text says to restart the app to refresh localized pricing. If the currency looks wrong, that is why.
